Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where does the money I raise go?

The funds being raised through this virtual event will support The Hunger Project's work to work to end chronic hunger and abject poverty in nearly 20,000 communities in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. Our approach — which has the empowerment of women at its core — fosters self-reliance, not dependency, and leverages local resources and community action. Relying on local staff leaders and nearly 400,000 local volunteers, we keep costs down and sustainability up. Approximately 80% of funds received are invested directly in programs. You can learn more about our work on our website.

In every country where we work, The Hunger Project is committed to meeting the highest standards for nonprofit organizations, including tax-deductibility where applicable. The Global Hunger Project (our official legal name) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in the United States. Our Federal tax number (EIN) is 94-2443282.

We earn top ratings from charity watchdog agencies, including a four-star rating from Charity Navigator and an A from the American Institute of Philanthropy. You can access our financial information here.
